LOOKING FORWARD TO HOLY WEEK AND EASTER AT ST CUTHBERT'S

Palm Sunday 9.45 am - procession from the Bubwith courtyard (weather permitting). Blessing of, not only palm crosses but also 4 inch nails, both to be distributed and taken through the week to remind us of the loneliness of our Lord in the days ahead.

Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday 7.00 pm - Eucharist around the altar in a quiet and reflective mood. On Tuesday, following the evening service at 8.15, there will be a Tenebrae - music and words for Passiontide.

Maundy Thursday 7.00 pm - The service will focus on the process of desertion of Christ, and the significance of the Cross in people's eyes. The washing of feet will take place between the singing of hymns, prayers and readings, and the service will end with the stripping of the altar.

Good Friday 10.30 am - A United Service led by Canon Graham Hendy will precede a Walk of Witness from St Cuthbert's church to the Market Place, where a dramatic portrayal of Christ's journey through desertion to Easter Sunday will take place.

Good Friday 2.00 - 3.00 pm. During this 'last hour'the nails may be laid at the foot of the Cross, this having replaced the altar. Following simple readings, prayers and hymns, the single candle will be extinguished and all will leave in silence.

Holy Saturday No service at St Cuthbert's,but we may join in the Cathedral service at 9.00 pm

Easter Day 10.00 am. Service to begin with a procession from the west door, and the lighting of the Paschal Candle. It is planned to have a renewal of baptismal vows, and perhaps it may be possible to include a baptism in the service., followed by the Eucharist. Tjhe service will have a lighter touch to lift the mood in contrast to the dsepondency of the previous days, and end with the singing of the chorus "We shall rise".
